Anita Moorjani - useful excerpts from her book Dying to be Me

It wasn't my beliefs that caused me to heal.

It was a state of pure awareness, which is a state of complete suspension of all previously held doctrine and dogma. This allowed my body to reset itself. In other words, an absence of belief was required for my healing.

I have realised that strongly held ideolgies work against me. Needing to operate out of concrete beliefs limits my experiences because it keeps me within the realm of only what I know - and my knowledge is limited. And I restrict myself to only what I am able to conceive, I'm holding back my potential and what I allow into my life.

However if I can accept that my understanding is incomplete, and if I'm able to be comfortable with uncertainty, this opens me up to the realm of infinite possibilities.

i'm at my strongest when I am able to let go, when I suspend my beliefs as well as disbeliefs, and leave myself open to all possiblities. That also seems to be when I'm able to let go, when I am able to experience the most internal clarity and synchroncities. My sense is the very act of needing certainty is a hindrance to expeirencing greater levels of awareness. In contrast, the process of letting go and releasing all attachment to any belief or outcome is cathartic and healing.

Our biology responds to our awareness. Our consciousness can change the conditions of the planet in a much larger way than we realise.
I'm at my most powerful when I am working with life rather than against it.
in the tapestry of life, were all connected. each one of us is a gift to those around us, helping each other be who we are, weaving a perfect picture together.
it became clear to me in my Near Death Experience that to be me is to be love. This is the lesson that saved my life.
ReAlising that we are love transcends the belief that we need to work at being loving, with a giver and receiver.

HOKUSAI SAYS
Hokusai says look carefully.
He says pay attention, notice.
He says keep looking, stay curious.
He says there is no end to seeing.
He says honour the snippets
Of now that make up time
Like fragments of a photograph
With many unique colours
He says meet your ageing body
With grace, its soft skin rippling
Like the sea breeze
Over a glassy surface
He says keep changing
Letting go of conclusions
To allow space to grow into
More of who you really are

He says get so stuck
That the inertia
Driving you crazy
Becomes a teacher
He says repeat it,
And suffer, as long as
Your choosing stays of the servant
And not the Master

He says be who you really are
With no apologies
Creating environments
Where you shine

He says everyone of us
Is frightened.
Everyone of us has to find
A way to live with fear.
He says if your world was created by you
And how you perceive yourself
What does this say about
What you think of yourself?

How do you need
To perceive yourself
To see the magnificence
Around you?

He says everything is alive–
Cities, buildings, people, bikes,
Mountains, trees, wood,
Rock and water is alive.
He says everything has its own life.
And everything that is seen
Lives inside us.
He says live with the world inside you.
He says it doesn’t matter what you do
It matters that you care.
It matters that you feel.
It matters that you notice.

It matters that life lives through you.
Contentment is life living through you.
Joy is life living through you.
Giving is life living through you.
He says don’t be afraid.
Be here and let life
Take you by the hand.
Let life live through you.
- Inspired by the poetry of Roger Keyes.
Chinese proverb (edited by me)
If there is dark in the soul,
there will be disharmony in the person.
If there is disharmony in the person,
there will be disorder in the house.
If there is disorder in the house,
there will be conflict in the nation.
If there is conflict in the nation,
it will extend to the world.
If there is light in the soul,
there will be beauty in the person.
If there is beauty in the person,
there will be harmony in the house.
If there is harmony in the house,
there will be order in the nation.
If there is order in the nation,
there will be peace in the world.

Pure channel

I sit still and frozen
With my heart glowing
Allowing the frost to thaw
Down to the all-knowing

Warm mist dissolves
Into the thin, clean
And potent
Winter air

Radiating light
And what is true, while
Reaching out to
Connect with you

This captured moment
Is captured power
Calling forth pure intention
For this whole hour

Calling on delight and joy
And grace and truth
Of the one Source
To clear and transmute

The clinging shadows
The dangerous paths
The disowned guests
The howling wraths

For Chi moves to where
Attention is placed
And so in this moment
I clear this space

Blessing you
In your surrender
That the most humble
Meets the most high

In the name of he
Whose palm cups the white light
Of a billion
Clusters of stars.

Burn That Shit Down!

"If you prefer smoke over fire
then get up now and leave.
For I do not intend to perfume
your mind’s clothing
with more sooty knowledge.

No, I have something else in mind.
Today I hold a flame in my left hand
And a sword in my right.
There will be no damage control today.

For God is in a mood
to plunder your riches and
fling you nakedly
into such breathtaking poverty
that all that will be left of you
will be a tendency to shine.

So don’t just sit around this flame
Choking on your mind.
For this is no campfire song
To mantra yourself to sleep

Jump now into the space
Between thoughts
And exit this dream
Before I burn the damn place down."

Purity of Mind

From the amazing 19th century mystic Hazrat Inayat Khan, I've re-structured the original words into four line stanzas:

Part 1

The mind is not only a means of reasoning
It is the king of one's being
And upon condition of one's mind
Health, happiness and peace of life depend

The question is what to destroy
And what to keep in mind.
Collect and keep all that is beautiful
And destroy all that is void of beauty

Collect and keep all that
is agreeable and
Destroy all that has
A disagreeable effect upon you

Collect and keep all that
is harmonious and
Destroy all that creates
Inharmony in yourself

Collect and keep all that
is restful and
Destroy all that disturbs
The peace of your life

You get the drift.
So now I add a simple rhyme scheme
To make a little more of a party,
From the slow and beautiful symphony,
Of our esteemed scholar and brother, Inayat Khan.

Part 2

As some dust gets into the mechanism of a clock
Disturbed peace keep you from progress
Beauty and harmony may seem void and locked
And the mind paralyzes when so hindered

Life is progress, and stopping from progress is death
Failure does not matter - for a progressive person
Even a thousand failures matter nonetheless
For he has before his view success

The greatest pity in life is standstill
When life does not move further
It is a paralysis of the soul, the spirit, and will
Always be caused by bad impressions in mind

In reality no soul is happiness deprived
The soul's very being is happiness
Once the person is able to clear his mind
A new power begins to spring from his heart

Opening a way before him
To attract to him all he requires
To accomplish all he wishes
Clearing his path of the mind's myres

And making his atmosphere clear
For him to live and move and accomplish
All he wishes to accomplish

Joy & Service

I slept and dreamt
That life was joy.
I awoke and saw
That life was service.
I acted and behold,
Service was joy.
