Traditional African Dress (sitting opposite me on the train)

The bright pink and green dress (and headpiece and anklets)
Captures the air around her

Speaking the beauty of culture
Through the tongue of her tribe's african tradition

Celebration of its depth, like a family tree
Back to its timeless roots

Exulted by the freedom to express
The colour of her identity.

Last night

I awoke at 6am with my flatmate Sasha speaking loudly to someone.
Because of the hour I knew Sasha had come back from a big night out.
I called out 'shutup', which was ignored. So 45mins later I got out of bed to see what was going on.

I walked into the bathroom where the talking was happening, to find a naked 65 year old man standing wet in the shower, looking at me. Sasha was drying his leg with a towel.

I recognised his face - he was a homeless beggar. Thats when I realised - Sasha had, in his extremely drunkenly state of generosity, brought a homeless guy home to bathe him, and then to clothe him, have a beer and cigarette with him. and say goodbye.

The insanity of the scene, and whole experience, has been making me laugh all day! Its 10pm now, and Sasha is still out, drinking, with no sleep from last night. He does have benders occasionally, but this is taking it to another level.
Anyhow, just thought I would share this extremely random event.

Summer rain (prose)

The summer rain has taken us by surprise
Stilled my distractive thought & eyes
to the pace of a forest stream

All around me is water falling,
cave walls of solitude,
bringing me in, back in, to peace.
Peace of my own presence.

Stripping away the desire that
shoots out like darts

Everything is soft,
even the London tube and its indifference has vanished

Theres care for the guy who slipped, and smiles, in the rain
Theres a whole busy city become still, in the rain
There's Miss sexy legs become normal, in the rain
There's Mr 125% busy, found time to write, in the rain

There's a piece of peace in every raindrop,
released with each splash,
that gives us space for reflection, observation
and love
to arise from the dulled wet sounds, and colours

When all becomes misty in the rain,
everything in close proximity
becomes amazing again

and all I want is to be close with you, in the rain
with the warmth of your breath,
and comfort of your gaze

Enjoying talking about the ways
in which the earth forces us to slow down

Affected by her touch, each finger an elemental force
now drawing us back to the stillness, of the rain.

Loving what once was Wanting

I love you,
that which I am not,

that which I have wanted
so many times

I love you
for the beauty you are,

For through love
we become equal

A bridge is made

Where the mind
meets the moment.

Where the landscape of thought
meets the point of presence.

Where the fire of intelligence
meets the space of consciousness.

Where the imagery of the external
meets the inner eyes of the eternal...

Wanting

I want to consume That
which I am not

and that which I
can never be.

A hunger not designed
to be test-tasted,

A game with a finish-line
so far evaded.

So in limbo-tred
looking left & right to be fed

Jumping back & forth,
In hemispheres south and north

Wild & on the run from being tamed,
Looking for a love with no face or name

in heaven (Him), earth (her) & me,
where is this 'Holy Trinity'?

Seville to Granada

When your love comes,
a whole day's sun sets

It starts high,
illuminating everything

and slowly pivots angles,
turning once shadows into light

~

Emerged from the desert horizon's mirage,
I have found an oasis full of miracles

where my heart is bathed in sunlight
and the treasures of Seville's wishing wells.

I raise a golden cup to the sun,
honoring You and the thousand blessings
that water a thousand joys
in a thousand ways.
